Morehouse Y

The YMCA at the Morehouse School of Medicine recently partnered with the American Heart Association to provide CPR training to the surrounding community.

Nineteen community members participated in the 30-minute hands-only training session that focused on compression. Compression is a critical part of CPR since it can get blood to the brain to help prevent brain damage and death.

Each year more than 350,000 people suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital and about 90% of them do not survive. When CPR is performed effectively, it can double or even triple the chance of survival.

The Y hopes the training session will turn community members into lifesavers if a CPR emergency occurs in the community.

Y employees and staff can sign up for CPR/First Aid training by visiting the CollaborNation calendar.
