Y Member Story

Active duty kept me busy, fit and feeling fantastic, but as my retirement years accumulated, I began to see a major shift in my health. After a few years of retirement, diabetes, mild heart attack, 15 meds and obesity were staring back at me through the mirror.

It has taken a lot of dedication to return to the fitness level I enjoyed during active duty, but now I can boast that I am no longer on meds. I enjoy hiking up Stone Mountain and biking the route there and have been training to swim in the Gulf of Mexico for a triathlon, SWIM ACROSS AMERICA, to raise awareness for cancer.

I use the Y to keep me fit and help train by biking, rowing and swimming laps. We only have one life to live, and I’m living mine to the fullest!
