Expert Tips

The Y's resident tennis expert, Ian Thompson, shares training tips for youth tennis players from ages 7 through 15 and up! Learn what to focus on at every age to reach your personal best!

Theo Parrish started in the Y tennis program with very limited knowledge of the game. After his first session playing, he fell in love with the game and has been making strides ever since.

Theo just won the USTA State Championships with his team, is playing tournaments and improving his ranking and has his sights set on playing tennis past high school. His biggest weapons are his serve and forehand. He is just 13 years old but he hits as big as most 18 year-old players.

Theo loves to play and has to remind himself to take breaks to make sure he stays grounded and mentally healthy. He also excels in his schoolwork and says tennis has been a motivating factor. Theo fell in love with tennis after taking one session several years ago - and now has a sport that he can play for the rest of his life.
