Friends,

As we reflect on 2023, we are filled with gratitude at the collective impact we have achieved together. This past year marked a significant milestone—165 years of the Y serving the Atlanta community. Since 1858, we have stayed true to our mission to build healthy mind, body, and spirit while continuing to adapt and evolve to meet critical community needs.

In our 165th year, we continued our commitment to be the organization that champions communities where everyone belongs. Across our network of more than 30 branches and early learning centers, we engaged more than 173,000 individuals. Our approach is simple – promoting a sense of belonging and achievement, while fostering authentic relationships.

From early learning to afterschool, youth sports to aquatics, camp to teen leadership, we focus on a year-round approach to help youth build the skills they need to grow, thrive and own their futures.

From Pilates to Parkinson's classes, wellness coaching to diabetes prevention, from basketball to pickleball, we focus on an inclusive approach to whole person health that supports disease prevention and intervention.

From safety around water to food insecurity, health screenings to community gardens, our community outreach initiatives have been a lifeline for many, with thousands of families receiving nutritious food, essential health services and a place to belong.

None of this work would have been possible without your support. We are grateful for your partnership, which continues to inspire us. We invite you to continue this journey with us, collectively building a healthier and stronger community one person at a time.

Below, you will find numbers, stories, photographs, and videos that reflect our shared achievements in 2023. We hope you take pride in the deep impact your contributions are making.

Thank you for your belief in and support of the mission and work of the Y.

Gratefully,

Jeff Beckham

Reflecting on 2023: A Year of Impact and Inspiration

The YMCA of Metro Atlanta celebrates a year of meaningful progress and impact. We have deepened our commitment to health equity, expanded our youth development programs, and strengthened our presence as a critical community resource across Metro Atlanta. Through the dedication of our staff, the support of our partners, and the generosity of our donors, we've launched and expanded innovative programs and initiatives that continue to touch lives and transform our community.

Advancing Health Equity: A Commitment to Community Well-being

A core element of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta's 2025 strategic plan is the commitment to health equity. One shining example of these efforts is the hunger relief program spearheaded by the McCleskey-East Cobb Family YMCA, which began before the pandemic and expanded to meet growing needs during and beyond COVID-19. Collaboration with local partners and dedicated volunteers provides not just meals but also hope to families across Metro Atlanta.

Big Dreams Start Here: YMCA of Metro Atlanta and the Atlanta Hawks

The YMCA of Metro Atlanta proudly announced a groundbreaking partnership with the Atlanta Hawks, underscoring our shared commitment to nurturing big dreams. This partnership promises to amplify the impact of both organizations through youth development initiatives, making basketball and other sports more accessible and empowering youth with the skills and confidence to excel.

Discovering Adventure: Y Summer Camps Create Connection and Leadership Skills

At the Y, summer days are filled with adventure, friendship, and fun. Y camps provide a safe and engaging environment where children can explore the outdoors, build skills and make lasting memories. BOLD/GOLD programs take middle and high school youth on week-long excursions into the great outdoors to learn vital leadership skills and forge deep connections with peers. All Y summer programs empower campers, helping them uncover their potential as leaders.

Uniting for Safety: Launch of the Atlanta Water Safety Coalition

In 2023, the YMCA of Metro Atlanta, City of Atlanta Parks and Recreation, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and American Red Cross announced the Atlanta Water Safety Coalition. Focused on creating opportunities for greater access to swim and water safety lessons for youth and teens, this is a life-saving collaboration. Drowning is the number one cause of death for children under the age of 4 and, across all ages, children of color are at higher risk.

Empowering Leaders: The Y’s Commitment to People and Potential

At the heart of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta's Y2025 Strategic Plan is our commitment to nurture and develop leaders and provide opportunities and experiences for each individual to create positive change in our community and reach their full potential. Hear directly from dedicated Y team members as they share their personal stories of growth and the profound impact working at the Y has on their lives.

Celebrating Service: Bransby Christian Leadership Award Honors Bill Bolling

At the 2023 Good Friday Breakfast, the Y honored Bill Bolling, founder of the Atlanta Community Food Bank and other vital community initiatives, with the Bransby Christian Leadership Award, given annually to a community leader who exemplifies selfless service and profound commitment to improving lives. Bill’s dedication to addressing hunger and housing challenges embodies the spirit of servant leadership at the heart of the YMCA’s mission.
