The YMCA of Metro Atlanta and City of Atlanta are Teaming Up!
The YMCA of Metro Atlanta has partnered with the City of Atlanta to offer FREE summer lifeguard training! You will receive FREE training plus get paid for the time it takes to receive the training! This is open to anyone ages 16-24 who lives in the City of Atlanta.
Course Requirements
- Participants must be 16 years old by the end of the class. Online pre-work, attendance, full participation, successful completion of written tests and performance of all water skills are required. Students under 18 will also need a signed minor consent form.
- Tread water for at least 2 minutes.
- Swim 100 yards of front crawl.
- Swim 50 yards each of front craw with head up, sidestroke, breaststroke, breaststroke with head up, inverted breaststroke kick with hands on stomach.
- Perform a feet-first surface dive in 8 to 10 feet of water and then swim underwater for 15 feet.
- Perform a series of tasks given by the instructor to demonstrate listening and scanning ability as well as stamina and endurance.
*All trainings will include required e-learnings. These will be distributed a week before the in-person sessions and need to be completed before the class begins.

- Complete this form to apply for lifeguard certification
- Select the class you want to attend by clicking on the location and date below
- Register for your YMCA training account
- Register for the class. Be sure to continue through the pages until you get to a page that says "Thank you for Registering"
- You will receive a confirmation email from TrainingandCert@ymca.net
- Be on the lookout for an email from the trainer with the information regarding the class specifics and instructions for completing your e-learnings.
